his "secret" plan? add 1 smart, versatile frontcourt player, 1 pg that can be effective on both sides of the ball, get 1 young talent to develop and re-sign melo.
would love to bring back a healthy k-mart but maybe pick up a vet journeyman big for spot minutes; stiemsma got released by the pels, he could be a good 2nd or 3rd string c behind chandler.

IM starting to thinks that Kobe to the Knicks is a real possibility. After the Lakers missed on Carmelo, they have had a totally crappy offseason. No way a rotation of Nick Young, Jordan Hill, Boozer, Sacred, and Lin makes the playoffs this year. But if you toss Kobe into the mix, they will be good enough to lose their pick to the Suns. Kobe has stated that he will retire after next season. So really if he sticks with the Lakers he is basically conceding that he will never get another ring, or that they will luck out in free agency next season, after it didnt happen this one. It seems unlikely. Kobe has a no trade clause and the Knicks are the only team that makes sense. If Kobe is at 100% as he says, a.straight up Amare for Kobe swap makes sense for both teams. LAKERS clear their cap a season early and Knicks have a legitimate shot in the East.

Trade Amare and THJ for Kobe AND the option to swap first rounders this year, and the rights to their first rounder next year.
We absorb Kobe's albatross contract and ego next year and go for KD the following year. We gaurentee a top 3 pick this year.
LA does this to get rid of Kobe's whining ass right mow and get competitive NEXT year with a the big splash in FA.
Maybe a pipe dream but reuniting Phil and Kobe maybe our shitty Karma next year, but the draft picks would be golden.
I would hate to trade carmelo, but if Phil feels a TOTAL rebuild is in order than trading Melo and THJ for Kobe and the rights to a fist full of 1st. draft picks would be the way to go.
